The Blend & The Story
The 4940 Blend is a tribute to 4940 Corrales Road — the address where Candlestick Coffee Roasters first began, before joining forces with Grinding Gears. It's a blend built to honor that history: approachable, comforting, and rooted in where we started.
We built this blend from two classic, dependable origins. The base comes from Huehuetenango, Guatemala, a mountainous region on the Mexican border known for producing some of Latin America's most versatile coffees. Alongside it sits a washed Costa Rican coffee from the Central Valley, the historic heart of the country's coffee industry, known for its cocoa and toasted-nut character.
The Profile: Comforting, Nutty & Sweet
Roasted medium-dark to bring these two origins into harmony, the 4940 Blend delivers a warm, familiar cup built for everyday drinking. The Guatemalan component brings a nutty, graham-cracker sweetness with a soft, balanced acidity, while the Costa Rican component layers in cocoa and toasted-nut depth with a mellow sweetness of its own.
The result is a coffee layered with notes of toasted pecan, rich cocoa, and brown sugar sweetness that lingers through the finish. A rounded, low-acid body brings ease to every sip while a smooth sweetness creates a comforting, familiar finish. Whether brewed as drip coffee, in a French press, or pulled as espresso, this coffee delivers a warm and dependable experience — the kind of cup meant for slow mornings and easy refills alike.

Why We Choose This Blend
At Grinding Gears, some coffees are about showcasing a single extraordinary lot — and some are about telling our own story. The 4940 Blend is the latter. We chose to pair a nutty, sweet Guatemalan base with the cocoa-forward warmth of a Costa Rican Central Valley coffee to build something approachable every single day, while still carrying real depth in the cup.
Named for the address where our roots began, this blend brings together generations of tradition from two respected growing regions into one comforting, dependable cup.
It's a coffee that rewards slow mornings, easy refills, and a genuine appreciation for how far we've come since 4940.
